Celebrating Student Excellence in Mooting Success

Our School of Law is delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of two of our students, who were recently crowned winners of the QUB Law Society Open Moot Competition 2026.

First-year students Éibhleann Moore and Evie Webb demonstrated exceptional advocacy skills throughout the competition, progressing through a series of highly competitive preliminary and semi-final rounds.

Their semi-final appearance saw them present before a distinguished panel, including Professor David Capper, Mr Justice Fowler, and Lord Justice McCloskey - an invaluable experience for any aspiring legal professional.

Advancing to the final in London, they competed against an exceptionally strong team, Saffron Leaves and Cormac McSparron, in what proved to be a compelling showcase of advocacy talent. The final, held at the prestigious Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, was judged by Lord Stephens, making the occasion particularly memorable.  In addition to securing the overall title, the pair were also awarded Best Skeleton Argument in the final - an impressive accomplishment that reflects both their legal reasoning and written advocacy skills.

Reflecting on the experience, Éibhleann said “It was such an incredible opportunity to visit the Supreme Court, and to meet Lord Stephens - something which I will always be grateful for QUB for facilitating.  Winning the Novice Moot earlier this year, the Open Moot, and receiving Best Skeleton Argument in the final last week feels very surreal in my first year of studies - and would not have been possible without my co-counsel Evie’s support, encouragement and friendship throughout.”

Professor David Capper and colleagues across the School of Law have expressed immense pride in the students’ achievements. Their success is a testament not only to their individual talent and dedication, but also to the strength of the mooting programme at Queen’s.  Experiences such as mooting play a vital role in developing the practical skills essential for a career in law. By engaging in activities that build advocacy, critical thinking, and confidence, students significantly enhance their employability and readiness for professional practice.

Our School warmly congratulates both students on this remarkable accomplishment and wishes them every success as they continue their studies and future legal careers.

School of Law Student Represents QUB at UK–Germany Youth Summit

The School of Law is delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Eilish Rice, who was selected to participate in the prestigious UK–Germany Youth Summit held in Berlin from 19–22 March.

Eilish was chosen as one of just 35 participants from a highly competitive pool of over 1,300 applicants - an exceptional accomplishment and a testament to her talent and dedication. The Summit forms part of the UK–Germany Kensington Treaty initiative, which promotes collaboration through education, youth engagement, and democratic dialogue.

During the event, Eilish represented the North of Ireland with distinction, contributing thoughtfully to discussions on a range of important issues, including the future of the island of Ireland. She also participated in workshops exploring topics such as disinformation, diversity, civic engagement, and democracy, engaging with peers from across both countries.

Eilish was a fantastic ambassador of our School throughout the Summit, demonstrating insight, professionalism, and a strong commitment to global engagement. We are incredibly proud of her achievements and the way she represented both the School and Queen’s on an international stage.
